Miami Beach Community Health Center (MBCHC), a not-for-profit comprehensive health care network established in 1977, is inviting artists to participate in its third annual “Through the Eyes of Love” juried art exhibition in conjunction with ArtCenter/South Florida. This exhibition, to be held during Art Basel at the Miami International University of Art & Design, will offer a way for artists to express the depth of their thoughts and feelings as it relates to HIV/AIDS in honor of World AIDS Day.

Artists can submit for review paintings, sculptures, photographs and fashions to depict how this disease has changed the lives of so many around the world. The submission deadline for artists is Friday, November 18th, 2010.

Held in honor of World AIDS Day on December 1st, MBCHC’s Through the Eyes of Love will be free and open to the public at Miami International University of Art & Design from Wednesday, December 1st through Saturday, December 4th, 2010. An opening reception is planned for Tuesday, November 30th at 6:00 p.m.

“We have been so impressed by the great response over the past two years with more than 100 artists showing their works of art,” said Kathryn Abbate, CEO of Miami Beach Community Health Center. “We see this as a great awareness opportunity to further shed light on this disease and offer hope as there are viable treatment options allowing people to lead productive lives.”

The exhibition will showcase unique works of art by San Francisco-based artist Daniel Goldstein, who was the featured artist at this year’s International AIDS Conference in Vienna, Austria where his sculptures made up of everyday HIV-related objects were highlighted. His woodblock prints, collages and sculptures have been exhibited in leading galleries and museums throughout the world.

Permanent collections containing Goldstein’s work include The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, The Oakland Museum, The Art Institute of Chicago, The Brooklyn Museum of Art and the Durban Museum of South Africa. His large public sculptures are owned by numerous American corporations and municipalities as well as various international collectors.
